◆DJ China Mixing Competition

BRIEF FOR DJS TAKING PART
We are pleased you are participating in the 'DJ China 2001' Mixing Competition, taking place on Thursday 5th April. You will be informed which heat you have been allocated to.
The Heats
· Each heat will have 6 DJs playing
· The competition is only a vinyl competition, no CDs.
· You can bring your own records with you.
Equipment on Stage
· Vestax will provide turntables
· Vestax will provide the mixer for your heat.
Timings
PLEASE NOTE: All DJs must arrive at the stage area at least 20 minutes before the heat begins
· Each heat will be a continuous mix allowing 10 minutes per DJ.
· You will have a 10 minute slot for playing in the continuous mix, taking over from the DJ before you and handing over to the DJ after you
· You will be announced by the presenter who will be on stage and who will let you know when your 10 minutes are up and the next DJ is coming on to take over.
Judging
· You will be scored on your DJ-ing skills according to the following criteria. Musical ability - the mix of dance music the DJ is presenting should be attractive and smooth and not mechanical

Use of equipment - marking the DJ on their basic DJ-ing skills of connecting records to ensure the different rythms of the dance music fit to the same speed of the mix and their skills in using the DJ equipment and records to achieve this.

Artistic flair and creativity - taking into consideration the DJ's skills in the accuracy and speed of changing records, the number of record changes, the variety of scratch skills and any other creative skills they add to their performance.

Image and entertainment value - considering the DJ's dress, appearance and behaviour on stage

· The total a DJ can be awarded is 40 points per judge. All points will be added up at the end of the heat and the DJ with the most points will be the winner of the heat and will go through to the final.
· The runner up of the heat will also go into the final.
· The same criteria will be used to judge the final.
Prizes presentations
· At the end of each heat the presenter will announce the winner and a representative from Vestax will present the prizes.
The final
· There will be four finalists, the winner from each heat and the best runner up from each heat.
· Each finalist will play using the Vestax mixer
· The final will NOT be a continuous mix. Each finalist will have 10 minutes to play
· The final will take place at 3.30pm
The prizes
· Everyone will receive a prize and an award/medal for their participation
· The prizes will be supplied for each heat by the sponsor company - see table below
· The organisers will also present awards/medals as follows;
The runners up of each heat who do not go through to the final will receive an award/medal with the words
· Highly recommmended award for DJ-ing skills
The 3rd and 4th placed finalists will each receive one of the following awards, depending on which is most appropriate to their performance:
· Special award for creativity
· Special award for most entertaining performance
The 2nd placed finalist will receive an award with the words
· 2nd place finalist in DJ Mixing Championships
Award for DJ-ing Excellence
The winner will receive an award with the words
· Mixing Champion 2001
The best in China
· Certificates will be sent to all DJs after the Competition
◆VIP area for judges and participants
· There will be an area to the side of the stage for judges and DJs to congregate before each heat.
